Artist's Comments

This bird was first found 3/2/09, but thankfully stayed in close overnight and I was able to get over to see it the next day. It's not the hardest alcid to see in NH but it was still very nice to see it in so close.

Nice winter bird, Jason.
Did you make the pelagic trip?

The pelagic has still not gone. We're going to keep trying, but soon the alcids will be moving north so we are running out of time.

Hey, that's a shame. :fingerscrossed: I know how it feels to miss seasonal events. Every one is different.
There was a little Alcid movement beginning in the first week of February and this week came the first reports of north-bound Eiders.
I head back to Machias Seal Island tomorrow. This year I'll miss the April Alcid arrival by a week or so but I'll be there for the build-up.

Yeah, can't really count on the weather in New England. I'd love to make it up to Machias someday.
